FOOTBALL: Spalding United launch elite plans
Spalding United are looking to develop talented players by expanding the youth set-up next season.
An application has gone in to enter the Lincolnshire Intermediate League for the under-18 elite development side as well as playing in the FA Youth Cup.
The Tulips’ plans follow the success so far this season of the under-21 development team.
Eight players have been involved in the first-team squad as well as building an unbeaten record at the top of the Lincolnshire FA Under-21 Development League.
Spalding under-21s development manager Lewis Thorogood said: “It gives me great pleasure to announce the launch of the under-18s elite development side and continue to build the pathway of players from under-18s, through to 21s and the first team.
“We have the full support of the chairman Andy Gay and first-team manager Chris Rawlinson.

“They are keen to develop this and with the structure working together, we can produce the best local players possible for Spalding United.
“Realistically, we can get players from across south Lincolnshire – very much as we have done this season in the under-21s. This is where we need to start the process.”
The first open trials for the under-18s will take place on Sunday, April 8, with further details to be announced.
