Neal Spafford will lead out Spalding United on his 100th appearance.

The central defender keeps the captain’s armband as Gary King is suspended again.

Tulips manager Chris Rawlinson said: “Fair play to Spafford for reaching 100 games and playing a massive role.

“Our defensive record is pretty good, particularly if you take away two horrible games over the August bank holiday weekend.

“Spafford knows that he should have played in last season’s promotion play-off final.

“We had brought in Kern Miller because we didn’t trust Spafford to avoid getting sent off again.

“He has learned from that and, this season, I think he has been our most consistent performer.

“I’ve been really pleased with the back five plus Matt Varley and Danny Brooks in front of the defence.

“Ellis Humble has grown since a poor pre-season and Jack Fixter, at the age of 18, is showing that he will have a good career.

“Our issue has been not scoring enough goals.”

Spalding face a tough test on Saturday at second-placed Alvechurch.

Ben Davison is fully fit after a tight hamstring while Paul Walker and Jonny Lockie may return to the squad having missed the 1-1 draw against Belper Town on Saturday.

The trip to Gresley has been rearranged for next Thursday after snow and a waterlogged pitch forced the fixture to be called off this week.
