FOOTBALL: Saturday round-up and results

Gary King

Spalding United ended the long wait for an away win - but captain Gary King was sent off again.

Danny Brooks’ free-kick on 34 minutes - following a foul on Jenk Acar - proved enough for three Evo-Stik South points at Kidsgrove Athletic.

King was dismissed on 73 minutes and Michael Duggan’s outstanding save protected the Tulips’ victory.

Spalding ended a run of seven successive away defeats dating back to October.

However, they will again be without top scorer King due to suspension.

He returned from a three-match ban for a red card in the home defeat to Kidsgrove so both games since being appointed as skipper have ended early for King.

Meanwhile, Holbeach United’s hopes of challenging for the title suffered a setback with a 1-0 defeat at Cogenhoe United in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division.

Sean McBride headed home the winner on 17 minutes to leave the Tigers in fifth place.

Division One leaders Pinchbeck United’s home game against Oakham United was postponed along with Bourne Town’s trip to Rushden & Higham United.
