FOOTBALL: 'The scoreline is totally unacceptable'

Joint manager Rob Middleton questioned the desire of Bourne Town's squad after a 'totally unacceptable' defeat.

Zak Munton cancelled out Lutterworth Town's opener and then made it 3-2 from the spot after Craig Rook missed a penalty.

But the Wakes let in six goals during the second half and Swifts striker Tendai Daire took his personal tally to half a dozen.

Middleton said: "I'm still dazed about what happened.

"They are a good side and we expect them to be up there but the scoreline is totally unacceptable.

"It wasn't our strongest squad available on Saturday but the starting XI should have been good enough to compete.

"We were 4-2 down at half-time and I felt we would get more chances. At that stage, we weren't out of the game at all.

"However, there were far too many individual errors and we got punished for those.

"We expect better from the players even when we are up against good teams like Lutterworth.

"We started brightly for 10 minutes in the second half but the heavens opened at 5-2.

"So far this season, we have not taken points when we should have done.

"We must question the availability and desire because the squad were told after this game that it's not acceptable.

"These issues have got to be addressed now and we can't hide behind them.

"We've also picked up more injuries and we are in the
market to bring in two or three players.

"We need to brush ourselves down and show an
improvement, starting with a positive performance at home to Pinchbeck United on Tuesday night in the Knockout Cup.

"We must be prepared to battle for 90 minutes. It will be another difficult game and we can't afford to make errors."

Following Tuesday's cup tie at Abbey Lawn, the Wakes are back on league duty at Irchester United on Saturday.
