FOOTBALL: Knockout blow for Tigers

Danny Hussey is planning for next season after Holbeach United’s campaign ended in defeat today.

The Tigers lost 3-1 in the KitmanUK Knockout Cup final as league champions Daventry Town completed the double.

Hussey said: “They were the better side and stronger in key areas but we made mistakes again so it was disappointing to lose.

“The quality showed in the end.

"We were short of numbers with Spencer Tinkler out injured, Joe Braithwaite unavailable and Jonny Lockie cup-tied. They are big players for us.

"We don't have the biggest squad and we even had to ask the league if we could use Callum Madigan and Dan Dougill to reinforce the squad as we were that short.

“My job has already started this summer and I’m being pro-active by meeting players.

“We’ve invited everyone back for pre-season but they need to keep themselves fit over the summer as well.

“We’ve identified players who we need to improve the squad.

“Pre-season will be hard work and the players need to prove themselves over who will start our league games next season.

"It would have been nice to finish fourth and win the cup. Teams like Daventry grind out results all season and we haven't done that.”
