FOOTBALL: Goode to stay at Deeping Rangers

By John Lavery

Deeping Rangers have confirmed that Michael Goode and the management team that led the club to such a successful 2018-19 campaign are to continue in their roles with the first team for the upcoming season.

Chairman Paul Smith said on the club’s Facebook page: “Following a very good season, we have had some hard discussions but we have agreed the way forward with Michael, that satisfies both parties, and we look forward to the season with great
enthusiasm.”

Michael’s management team will be boosted by the addition of Leigh Porter, who is to be joint assistant manager.

He will join the rest of the existing management team of Michael, Jack Marsden (assistant manager), Martin Bond (coach), Dan Bircham (coach) and Sam Seal (physio).

Michael said: “Leigh’s experience, which includes a very successful season at Rangers as manager of the Under-18s in the Thurlow Nunn Youth League (2017-18) and in the UCL with Bourne Town last season, will complement the existing management team.

“He is looking forward to returning to the club in this new role and helping us to achieve our targets on and off the pitch.”

An excellent 2018-19 season has seen Rangers finish runners up in the Future Lions United Counties League Premier Division, concluding their campaign by inflicting only the second defeat of the season on champions Daventry - a 1-0 success at the Haydn Witham Stadium.

The side also enjoyed a history-making run to the fifth round of the Buildbase FA Vase and won the Lincolnshire FA Senior Trophy, beating Grimsby Borough in a thrilling penalty shoot-out, 4-3, after the game had ended goal-less at the end of 90 minutes.
