FOOTBALL: First anniversary for Rawlinson
Chris Rawlinson marks a year in charge of Spalding United today.
He stepped up from his role as assistant manager when boss Dave Frecklington moved to Gainsborough Trinity.
Last week’s sacking meant Frecklington didn’t quite make the first anniversary.
However, Rawlinson says he is “thoroughly enjoying the wonderful ride”.
He said: “Spalding are a brilliant club with great people working hard.
“I took over a year ago when we were in third place and we stayed up there to the end of the season.
Spalding are a brilliant club with great people working hard.
“On the day, we deserved to lose the play-off final but you always think ‘could I have done things differently and got us promoted?’
“In the summer, we lost our best two players when Nathan Stainfield and Bradley Wells went to Gainsborough.
“Along with the end of Leon Mettam’s loan spell, we had to rebuild the squad to a certain degree.
“Although we had lost a few games earlier in the season, we were challenging again and looking to kick ourselves into the play-offs until the budget cuts in November.”
Rawlinson’s anniversary was due to fall with a trip to relegation-threatened Sheffield - but tonight’s game was called off following a pitch inspection.
