FOOTBALL: Quality and experience added to Pinchbeck United squad
Pinchbeck United are aiming to hit back from a hat-trick of league defeats.
The Knights face mid-table Peterborough Northern Star at the Sir Halley Stewart Field on Saturday.
They slipped to seventh in the Future Lions United Counties League Premier Division with last weekend’s 2-0 loss at Oadby Town.
Striker Ryan Oliver made his debut on dual registration with Grantham Town and former Holbeach United captain Nick Jackson will come into squad following his move from Wisbech Town.
Player-manager Ian Dunn said: “Hopefully the extra experience at both ends of the pitch will pay dividends for us to halt this little run of results.
“Some of the players have not been at this level previously and that’s probably showing at the moment.
“In the home defeat to Rugby Town, they were far too streetwise for us when the gulf in class showed that day.
“We realised that we had to do something about it.
“We took a younger side to Sileby Rangers in the Hinchingbrooke Cup but last Saturday, two or three players were slightly off the pace again.
“We are probably not quite where we want to be.
“Other sides would be happy in this position but we are striving to do better than that.
“We’ve worked hard in training and having brought in Oliver and Jackson, we might add another signing which also means other players will leave.
“We can shake hands and say our goodbyes after some fantastic memories.
“You can’t stand still if you want to do well at a higher level. We needed to bring in more quality and experience.”
Central defender Jack Smith has already left Pinchbeck following three red cards this season.
The Knights are level on points with fourth-placed Holbeach United while Oadby and Cogenhoe United also moved above Dunn’s side on goal difference.
