Spalding United boss encouraged by options off the bench
Spalding United are aiming to end a two-month wait for victory.
The Tulips head to Newcastle Town in the BetVictor Northern Premier League South East Division on Saturday.
They have failed to win in eight games - but Matt Easton’s squad will be boosted by the comeback to earn a 2-2 draw with Stamford last weekend.
Easton is also encouraged by strength in depth and more options off the bench.
He said: “It looks more promising when I turn around to the bench and see we can change the game.
“Instead of having a few teenagers to bring on, we have a it of everything and more experience now.
“Joel Brownhill was unlucky to be on the bench against Stamford when we wanted to try Kevin Bastos down the right.
“I was going to bring on Charlie Hart until we needed to put Jack Withers into the defence. Two minutes later, George Zuerner got injured!
“Alex Smith came in last Saturday because Michael Duggan has a back injury.
“He couldn’t do anything about either goal. I thought he was big and strong from
set-pieces when we needed him.
“Newcastle had a good result at Belper Town last Saturday and it’s always difficult going there.”
Zuerner (hamstring) and Scott Floyd (dead leg) could be available after injuries against Stamford.
Neal Spafford is awaiting scan results and Josh Spencer may return to the squad.
