FOOTBALL: Double bid for Moulton Harrox

League champions Moulton Harrox are looking to finish the season with more silverware on Saturday night.

They face Whittlesey Athletic in the Peterborough Senior Cup final (5.30pm kick-off).

Harrox finished 16 points ahead of fifth-placed Whittlesey in the ChromaSport Peterborough & District League Premier Division.

Assistant manager Paul Crowson said: “Since the final league game in early April, we’ve managed to fill the gap with a few friendlies.

“It was hard work trying to find opposition at the end of the season but we managed to play teams who had done well in their leagues.

“We drew 1-1 at home to Whittlesey when we needed one more point to take the championship.

“We lost 4-0 away in November but we didn’t have a goalkeeper available.

“Whittlesey are a good side without a doubt but it’s going to be all about what happens on Saturday night.

“If we turn up, we know that we are a match for anybody at this level as the league table proved.

“We need to show the right attitude and frame of mind for the cup final.

“It will be interesting to see what happens as I think it will be a close game.

“There is not a lot between the sides and hopefully we’ll have the edge this time.”

The final is being played at Nene Valley Community Centre in Peterborough.

Moulton will be missing James Thorold who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the end-of-season friendly against Stilton United.

Ainsley Johnson faces a late fitness test on a hamstring injury.

Despite a first-half lead, Moulton lost 4-2 to quadruple winners Netherton United in last year’s PFA Senior Cup final at Peterborough United’s ABAX Stadium.

Harrox were crowned 2018-19 Premier Division champions for the third time in seven seasons after only two league defeats.
