Spalding Golf Club are celebrating another memorable success.

James Crampton has been crowned 2022 European Seniors Championship winner after victory at Pärnu Bay Golf Links in Estonia over the weekend.

The Spalding player entered the final round of the competition with a three-shot lead, having been the only golfer to card two scores under-par in the opening two rounds.

In the final round, Sweden’s Mattias Pernheden was Crampton’s biggest challenger.

Pernheden, the 2019 champion, made four birdies early in the round - but a quadruple-bogey eight on the ninth hole ended his challenge.

The Swede was ultimately awarded the silver medal on +2, three shots behind, with Edward Richardson (England) taking the bronze on +3.

Crampton’s exploits came on the same day that Spalding were holding an afternoon of celebration after being crowned English Champion Club at the end of last year.

He had been part of three-man team, along with Simon Richardson and Darryn Lloyd, which was triumphant after two days of competition at Knole Park Golf Club in Kent.

Their three-man total gross score over two rounds was a mightily impressive seven under par, and earned them the glory ahead of 30 rival club sides from all across England.

Crampton is currently England Golf’s director of championships, and and his success came on his debut in the Senior Men’s Amateur event at the weekend.
