TWO Nene Valley Harriers finished in the top three as Bourne Wood played host to Fat Feet’s 13.1 mile Woodland Stampede.
Held in decent conditions, Nene Valley’s Matt Green roared out in front for the first six miles, before being passed by eventual winner Matthew Stratford (Redhill RR).
The two were evenly-matched until the final three miles, when Stratford opened up a big lead to finish in 1.19.37hrs, which was almost two minutes quicker than Green (1.21.34hrs).
Behind the top duo, Nene Valley’s Olly Slater clocked 1.23.47hrs to take a fine third, while female winner Tara Spillings (1.32.46hrs) was the fifth fastest overall.
Another Nene Valley Harrier, Barry Warne, was 11th.
After his daughter won the female category, David Spillings made it a family affair by prevailing in the male aged 50+ group.
Other category winners were Neil Martin (40+), Melanie Hayes (female 40+) and Clare Burrel (female 50+).
The event was organised by Bourne native – and ultra marathon enthusiast – Keith Gray, who also played in Pinchbeck United FC’s double-winning team last season.
Fat Feet’s next event is the Grim Reaper ultra marathon at Grimsthorpe Castle (distances 40, 70 or 100 miles) from July 13-14 (times TBC).
