Holbeach United win two accolades at the FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards
Holbeach United are celebrating a memorable awards double.
The Tigers have bagged a brace of accolades at the The FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards.
They were named Grassroots Club of the Year by the Lincolnshire FA while Rob Bell took the plaudits in the Grassroots Coach of the Year for Youth section.
Bell beat off competition from Glenn Long (Sleaford Town), Amy Kay (Grimsby Borough), Simon Havard (Scotter Juniors) and Ken Grant (Bourne Town) for the award.
He enthused: “It was an honour to be nominated and feels surreal to have won.
“It’s a privilege to be the coach of the boys and girls of the teams I look after. Each and every one of them are a joy.
“Although this is an individual award, I owe a huge debt to my fellow coaches at Holbeach.
“They are a fantastic supportive group, always helping one another and always willing to help to try and better the club. Many thanks for the nomination and for the award.”
The Tigers got the better of Greenbank, Barton Inclusive, Barton Juniors and Deeping United to win their section.
Andy Ferguson – who is chairman of Holbeach United Juniors – dedicated the award to everyone at the club.
He said: “The award is for the whole club from the children to the parents, players, committee, coaches, managers and volunteers.
“It’s what we do for the community and getting the club structure correct.
“Rob also deserves a mention after being named youth coach of the year. It’s a great achievement for a small town in South Lincolnshire.”
The FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards are for people who make a positive difference to the game.
Their aim is to celebrate the fantastic individuals who put their heart and soul into the grassroots game across England.
Lee Sutton – chairman of Deeping United who were nominated in the club of the year category – was full of praise for Holbeach’s achievements.
He added: “Myself as chairman and the whole of Deeping United would like to congratulate Holbeach United for winning the Lincolnshire FA Grassroots Club of the Year award.
“They deserve it for all the hard work they have put in all year round.
“It is always a great place to go and play with such friendly teams and parents.
“Deeping United made it onto the shortlist of the top five which I am incredibly proud of.
“I would like to thank all my committee, sponsors, coaches, parents and players for all their hard work in what was a very difficult year.”
