Rose inspires Market Deeping to victory

Market Deeping are up to second place in Division One of the Rutland League, after a two-wicket victory at home to Wisbech on Sunday.

In the only game involving local sides to survive the wet weather, Wisbech won the toss and elected to bat, registering 170-6 in their 40 overs.

James Hook (2-27) and Matthew Rose (2-29) both bowled well during their eight overs and there was also a wicket each for Mehul Adatia and Karl Green.

In reply, Deeping lost both openers cheaply and were 6-2 when wicket keeper Joe Malton (24) and James Hook (16) steadied the ship.

Matthew Rose then grabbed the bull by the horns and guided his side to victory with an unbeaten 69 from 73 balls, including seven fours and a six.

The winning runs were hit with two wickets remaining and an over to spare.
