FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round: Harborough Town 1 Deeping Rangers 2
Deeping Rangers booked their passage to the preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup with a win in blustery Leicestershire.
First-half goals from skipper David Burton-Jones and Jeremiah Adams earned the Clarets a trip to Step Four side Bedford Town on Saturday, August 24.
Deeping were playing into a strong wind in the first half and had to withstand early pressure, with keeper Lewis Elsom saving well inside the first 60 seconds.
Scott Mooney then went close for the visitors who soon got their noses in front. Dan Jarvis won possession and set up Jordan Macleod to go on a run to the edge of the box before teeing up Adams to fire home.
Harborough were on level terms within four minutes through a curling Finlay Gray free kick.
However, Burton-Jones was to start and finish the move which was to be the winning goal.
Winning the ball on the halfway line, he set Macleod on the run and when his shot was parried by Harborough keeper Glen Giles, the skipper was on hand to pick up the pieces and blast home.
Rangers assistant manager Martin Bond said: “I think Harborough will feel hard done by on chances created.
“However, as with us at Lutterworth last week it is all about being clinical and taking your chances.
"Thankfully for us that is what we’ve done in our first two away games of the season.”
