Preparations are gathering pace for the National Junior Road Race Championships which are being promoted by Bourne Wheelers.

The club are staging the junior men’s race over 69 miles at 10am with the 46-mile junior women’s event getting under way four hours later.

The event on Sunday has attracted strong interest from the top junior riders.

Mark Botteley, of Bourne Wheelers, said: “The course based around Witham on the Hill, Little Bytham, Ryhall, Essendine and Carlby is considered one of the most challenging in the area.

“There is very little flat terrain and it will definitely help provide two worthy champions.

“There will be refreshments, an outside bar and a barbecue on the village green in Witham as well as other stalls which will help give a continental flavour.”

Those named on the start list include Lewi Askey, Ben Barlow, Alex Haines, Mason Hollyman, Dylan Hughes, Oscar Mingay, Theo Modell, Aaron Preston, William Tidball, Sam Watson and Ethan Vernon.

Leading ladies are Anna Docherty, Pfeiffer Georgi, Gabriella Homer and Ellie Russell.
