Fourteen-year-old Josh Smith took a stunning four wickets in as many balls as Market Deeping 2nd slipped to defeat at Easton-on-the-Hill on Sunday.
The youngster’s superb bowling spell, where he clean-bowled two opponents and trapped the other two lbw, couldn’t prevent a 55-run defeat in Division Five of the Rutland League.
The hosts reached150 for eight and that proved enough as Deeping 2nd – without a win this season – were dismissed for 95.
Another fine Deeping bowling display that was in vain came from Dan George who achieved his first five-wicket haul for three years in Division Two.
His efforts couldn’t prevent Market Deeping losing by 14 runs at Kings Keys.
Skipper Pete Morgan scored 69 as Bourne won at Wisbech in Division One.
