CRICKET: Keeble kids give Sutton hope for the future

Long Sutton fell to an agonising defeat against the Rutland Sunday League leaders Tilton.

Choosing to bowl, they started superbly with Jack Keeble picking up two early wickets. He was well supported by older brother Jordan, neither looking out of their depth at such a high standard.
Tilton then began to build a partnership with Rob Simpson (0-35) and skipper Jake Burton (0-32) unable to break the stand. With the rate starting to climb, Burton reintroduced Jack Keeble (4-56), who picked up two further wickets to achieve career best senior figures. However, Tilton reached 198-5 with Jordan Keeble (1-39) picking up the other wicket.
Sutton’s reply started slowly with Steve Skoulding (12) and Phil Coote (27) setting the platform.
The more aggressive middle order tried to increase the run rate through Aaron John (35) and Danny Sisson (18), but when they fell Sutton were still a long way from victory.
Some impressive striking from Ben Shore (38) briefly gave Sutton hope, but eventually to no avial as they fell 19 runs short of victory.
