CRICKET: Perfect start is over for championship challengers

The league leaders and defending champions lost by 37 runs to Grantham 2nd at Spalding Grammar School on Saturday.

Joe Broomfield picked up four wickets after Stewart Mudie (79) led the way for the visitors.

Spalding's reply got off to a solid start through Broomfield (38) and Jon Manton (24).

But none of the other home batsmen reached double figures until number nine Brandon Andrews smashed 46.

However, that effort was too little, too late for Spalding as Ramakrishna Mangineni got a five-wicket haul.

Division One leaders Market Deeping 2nd eased home by six wickets at Baston.

There were also away wins for Spalding 2nd and Pinchbeck.

Andrew Beeston claimed five wickets in Pinchbeck's dramatic victory at Boston 3rd.
