CRICKET: Big win for Spalding on derby day

Spalding took the honours against Long Sutton thanks to tight bowling.

The defending champions posted 244-8 off 45 overs after being put into bat at the Grammar School on Saturday.

Joe Broomfield (35) and Jon Manton (30) got Spalding off to a solid start.

Captain Jonathan Miles added 43 and former skipper Rob Ambrose led the way with 55.

Adam Whitaker produced figures of 4-36 but Long Sutton conceded a half-century of extras then Spalding’s bowlers sealed victory.

Long Sutton were restricted to 132-4 in reply as everyone reached double figures without being able to push on.

Spalding made it four successive wins at the top of the table while Long Sutton suffered their first defeat of the summer.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, there was a four-wicket win for second-placed Bourne 2nd at home to Grantham 2nd.

Graves Park were thrashed by 169 runs at Boston 2nd.

Newly-promoted Pinchbeck celebrated their first win in Division One in the other game played at Spalding Grammar School.

They won by eight wickets after Heckington were dismissed for 104 in the 36th over.

Andrew Beeston and Lee Eyett bagged four wickets apiece. Eyett finished the job with an unbeaten 40.

Premier Division: Belton Park v Billingborough abandoned; Grantham 2nd 180-5, Bourne 2nd 181-6 (44.4 overs); Freiston L&L 192 all out (44.5 overs), Sleaford 2nd 123 all out (30.2 overs); Skegness 184-7 (45 overs), Woodhall Spa 2nd 187-6 (38.4 overs).
