Deeping Rangers and Bourne Town both hit the FA Vase trail this weekend in first qualifying round matches.

The Clarets entertain United Counties League Division One side Holwell Sports, while Bourne host league rivals Belper United at the Abbey Lawn.

Deeping have already beaten Holwell 3-0 in a pre-season friendly this term, and boss Daniel French is keen to build on last weekend’s Premier Division North success over Melton Town in the second of three home games for the Clarets.

French said: “We have been treating these matches as a mini period of three games so it was good to get the first one ticked off.

“It’s also been quite nice to not have a midweek game this week because it’s allowed us to train, especially as some lads have missed games.

“We will go into the game on Saturday full of confidence but it’s a no-lose situation for them as they will be coming wanting to take a scalp of a higher league team.

“We need to work as hard as Saturday and then our quality should be enough because we can’t afford just to expect to turn up and win the game.

“We have to make sure that we do the right things and then we will have a really good chance of reaching the next round.”

Pinchbeck United – who are unbeaten in their last two outings in the Premier Division North – host Newark FC in the league on Saturday at the Sir Halley Stewart ground.

Lewis Thorogood’s side followed up their win over Selston the previous weekend with a point in a goalless draw at Holbeach United on Saturday.

The Tigers were missing 11 players from their first team squad for the derby duel, and boss Phil Barnes is hoping to have more selection options at his disposal as Holbeach entertain Long Eaton at Carter’s Park on Saturday.

The two sides have already met this season in the FA Cup, with Long Eaton winning 4-1 in the extra preliminary round match.

Spalding United play the first match of an away double-header in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division as they visit Sutton Coldfield on Saturday.
