Capes brothers making most of what is left of season

The Capes brothers were finally back in shot put action at the weekend following the long coronavirus lay-off.

With the season effectively only one month long, the boys, from Morton near Bourne, entered Charnwood Athletic Club’s Open at Loughborough University.

Donovan (15) threw a respectable 14.88m with a 5kg shot which ranks him sixth U17 nationally. However, he fouled on some really big throws so there is definitely more to come.

Lawson (11) threw a fantastic 11.32m with a 3kg shot which is on par with the best second year throwers in the U13 group and retained a national number two ranking, after spending most of the year at number one from the indoor season.

Coach and dad Lewis Capes said: “It was great to finally get out as the boys have kept training hard and kept focussed for all this time.

“Donovan has been throwing some big numbers so we are looking forward to the final two competitions.

“Lawson’s throw was huge as this was almost a 2m improvement from the indoor season in February. He is making a huge impact on this age group already.”
