Peterborough champs just too strong for Spalding

By John Lavery

After winning the Spalding & District Division One bowls league in the summer of 2018, Spalding Town Bowls Club were the district’s representatives against the Peterborough champions, Parkway, in the fourth annual challenge match between the champions of the two leagues.

The match was hosted by Market Deeping Bowls Club, with the game programmed to be played by three players, on three rinks, each playing 21 ends. Spalding Town were playing in their new strip, supplied by Sainsbury’s Supermarkets, and made a bright start.

However, they soon found that they were up against a very strong Parkway side and, after going behind early in the match, they never really threatened.

Parkway went on to win the challenge match by a 51-39 margin.
