Spalding bowler wins Stamford Under-18 Open title

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s Harry Mycock showed impressive form in becoming the new Stamford under-18 open champion.

Mycock, part of the men’s team that reached the national quarter-final of the Denny Plate in January, had to progress through four round-robin matches of eight ends each, with the winner of each group making their way into the final.

Despite having been drawn in a good, competitive group consisting of players from Barwell, Huntingdon and Melton, Mycock played exceptionally well in the round-robin group stages.

He won all four of his games to reach the final where he took on Melton’s Alex Warrington.

Both players conducted themselves really well and the pair produced some excellent bowls.

However, it was Mycock who proved too good on the day after establishing an early lead and he went on to clinch the title 10-1, with an end to spare.

After winning the title for the first time, Mycock was presented with the champion’s cheque by the presidents of Stamford Indoor Bowls Club, Shirley Suffling and Ian Hall.
