ATHLETICS: Grimer opens cross-country season well

SPALDING ace Nick Grimer came in second for Nene Valley Harriers at the first Lincs Cross Country League meeting of the season.

On a tough course along the Skegness beach, which included some testing sand dunes, Grimer was second behind Latvian team-mate Edgars Sumskis as Nene Valley bossed the senior race with four of the top five finishers.

Katie Hutchinson made a winning Nene Valley debut in the U/15 girls’ race, while fellow youngster Emma Randall impressed against senior opposition when finishing third in the women’s race.

l BOURNE Town Harriers were also well represented at Skegness.

For the seniors Rich Lomas-Brown was 24th, with Roland Stevens coming home in 58th. In the ladies race Claire Steels was fifth, ahead of team-mate Dawn Hunt in 32nd.

These results promote both Lomas-Brown and Steels into gold place in their respective senior series.

In the U/13 girls’ race Saskia Hunt led the way in 13th, with Leah Clark 16th, Molly Bennett 17th and Keeley Caven 22nd,

Meanwhile in the U/13 boys category, Aaron Hunt was a magnificent second, with Cameron Everist sixth and Toby Everist taking 18th.

Martin Clarke was 6th in the U/15 boys, while Joe Howells (pictured) came in an impressive second in the U/17 men’s race.
