Freddie Fraser was crowned English Schools champion with a new personal best.

The Deepings School student won the Junior Boys 80m hurdles at the ESAA Track & Field Championship in a time of 10.84 at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, on Saturday.

Fraser - who finished fifth last year - clocked the fastest time by an under-15 this year, putting him sixth on the UK all-time U15 rankings.

Spalding Grammar School’s Will Hughes was third in the Senior Boys 200m - just ahead of Lincolnshire team-mate Praise Olalere.

Donovan Capes, of Bourne Academy, was placed 10th out of 16 in the Junior Boys shot.

His dad Lewis said: “He was the only Year 8 to qualify which provided great experience for next year.

“Donovan threw below his best with 11.89m but most of the boys did due to the huge occasion and his first time in a large stadium.

“He now looks forward to next year where he will be aiming to place in the top three.”
