Shot put prospect Donovan Capes rounded off his season in style with a ‘huge’ shot put personal best.

At an open meeting in Kettering over the weekend, the Bourne Academy student threw 13.33m, nearly half a metre further than his previous best which he set just three weeks earlier.

The milestone mark will put Capes at the top of the new under-15 shot put rankings which come out in the new year.

Dad and coach Lewis Capes said: “Donovan has been consistently hitting the 13m mark in training for the last two months.

“But he’s never been able to produce it in competitions which had been a bit of a frustration for him.

“Donovan’s confidence was knocked back a bit at the English Schools Championships in July when he was the only first year junior competing.

“So we decided to slow him down a bit, pulling him out of an Inter Counties meeting.

“But we entered Donovan at an open meeting in Kettering on Saturday just to get in one last performance for the season and he finally smashed the 13m barrier with a huge PB of 13.33m.”
