Who else ought to be commemorated?

Have your say

It is good to see that the plaque to Jean-Jacques Rousseau has been reinstated outside the former White Hart Hotel (Lincolnshire Free Press, April 3).

Thanks must go to Coun Gary Taylor for his interest in the history of the town and his contribution from the Designated Members’ Budget.

Spalding and District Civic Society is aware that there may be many other ‘worthies’ with Spalding connections to whom plaques could be dedicated. Two who have already been researched are Frank Pick, of London Transport fame, and General William Booth, of the Salvation Army.

The society would welcome suggestions of further people of historical note who should be celebrated in the town, and would be happy to erect further plaques.

If any readers wish to put forward ideas please contact any member of the civic society, or email me at judy.chapman@metronet.co.uk.
