Well-respected Rita can be proud of what she achieved

Have your say

I would like to take the opportunity to respond to the letter entitled “Losing the likes of Rita is a travesty”.

As one of the long-standing councillors who resigned from Holbeach Parish Council, I would like to set the record straight.

Rita Rudkin was indeed well respected. Over the last two years she served as vice chair and chair. I had the privilege to serve with her as vice chair. Although a district councillor, Rita gave willingly ample time to her parish duties.

Whilst the last two years have been extremely difficult, Rita still found time to be positive and decisive. It was her fervent wish that the parish council moved into “this century”.

She was an instigator for the propagation of new ideas, like attempting to apply modern business trends to running the council in an efficient and cost-effective way.

As the previous letter stated, councillors who resigned will be sadly missed – a number had taken effective control of certain areas with noticeable results.

The current situation is unprecedented; the way forward will be extremely difficult.

Thank you, Rita. You should be proud of what you achieved. I wish you well in your continued capacity as a district councillor for Holbeach, along with Martin Howard, who has also served our town to the best of his ability, with particular emphasis on Fishpond Lane Nature Reserve.
