Have your say

I would like to make it clear that I didn’t seek to make any political gain out of the inappropriate behaviour of someone who is now an ex-UKIP

councillor (UKIP in row over poppy wreath, Guardian, November 14).

The comments I made to the Guardian were in response to questions that I was asked by the Guardian and rather than “slam” the Ex UKIP member I did say that I preferred to think that his actions were a sign of inexperience, not ill intent.

I also declined to do a radio interview and later the same day a BBC television interview on the subject (not exactly the actions of a politician seeking publicity), specifically

because Remembrance Day is about all of us standing together to remember those who have paid the ultimate price when politicians or politics

I think the apology offered by the UKIP leader is the right course of action for them to take and he should be commended for that.
