PLANNING: It showed what we suggested

I should be grateful if you would allow me to comment on your September 2 piece on Law’s shopfront.

Of course the Civic Society wouldn’t have anything to worry about with regard to the shop front you pictured, because it shows the shop front amended as we suggested!

As you note, the delay which caused the applicant to consider pulling out of the deal arose because the council’s Chairman’s Panel decided to refer the application to the planning committee. It wasn’t a result of the society’s comments, as Coun Gambba-Jones makes clear.

Our observations on the original application stemmed from exactly the same concerns as the councillors: that is, the desire not “to lose any of (the present frontage’s) attractive features”.

And we welcome the prospect of an award-winning independent butcher taking over from Law’s much-loved business, rather than some faceless national chain.
