MP John Hayes is quite right about nuclear weapons and their deterrent effect in his recent answers to readers’ questions.
Given that they cannot be un-invented, the important thing is who has them and who doesn’t.
The existing nuclear powers have held these weapons and maintained peace for more than 50 years, so their proliferation to unstable countries represents a serious risk.
Those who would throw away our deterrent whilst encouraging others to gain what we would sacrifice must face up to the prospect of weapons of mass destruction in the hands of people who are mad, bad and dangerous to know.
Well done to our MP for once again saying what most reasonable people here know to be true.
