THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: By Pastor Chas Sandhu, Lighthouse Church, Spalding

As we look around the world we see human suffering. Nepal has had devastating earthquakes which has brought about multiple loss of life. We see in USA the floods in Texas where people have lost everything, many their lives. Human trafficking ruins lives by forcing them into slavery. It is estimated that 30,000 children die each day due to lack of food, water and medication. There are groups who murder others because they don’t believe what they believe!

So what can we do? I believe the answer is in the Bible. We read these words: “This is the kind of fast day I’m after: to break the chains of injustice, get rid of exploitation in the workplace, free the oppressed, cancel debts. What I’m interested in seeing you do is: sharing your food with the hungry, inviting the homeless poor into your homes, putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad, being available to your own families. Do this and the lights will turn on, and your lives will turn around at once. Your righteousness will pave your way. The God of glory will secure your passage (Isaiah 58:6-8 MSG translation).

This gives us a clear message? We may not be able to change the global impact but each of us in our homes, our families, our workplace and our community can make a difference by being passionate about kindness and caring and becoming involved. Kindness costs nothing to those who are our neighbours.
