I was outnumbered when trying to protect interests of villagers

I wish to thank the residents who have voted for me at the (Sutton Bridge parish council) elections over the last 20 years.

I found it very difficult after many years as a councillor sitting in a room with the majority of councillors who, in my opinion, are not representing you to the best of their ability.

I, along with a couple of other councillors, were sadly outnumbered when trying to protect your interests.

I find it less frustrating not attending the meetings and make better use of my time working quietly within the parish for worthwhile projects for neither recompense nor glory.

To the ex chairman Mr Brandon-King, who only served you for a few months and attended few meetings himself: I am sorry he felt unable to continue without me!

However, he was there when the Independent group, of which he was a member, voted to increase your precept/rates by 48 per cent from £52,000 to £77,000.

I was privy to the minutes but, alas, can find no reason for this huge increase.

In these times of austerity and when the Conservative-controlled South Holland District Council and Lincolnshire County Council managed not to increase theirs I have to wonder what is going wrong in Sutton Bridge.
