HEALTH SERVICE: Praise for the NHS

We read only too often negative reports against the NHS and the services it provides. I, however, wish to praise the NHS for the prompt and efficient service I recently received.

Having suffered both back and leg pains for several months I saw my GP on November 26. My GP decided the best way forward was to send me for an MRI scan.

On November 30 I received a telephone call from the Pilgrim Hospital to confirm they could carry out the MRI scan the following day (December 1).

Following the scan I had an appointment to return to see my GP at the Munro Medical Centre on December 6. He confirmed that he had received the results and advised that I see an orthopaedic consultant at Peterborough Hospital.

On the same day I received a call from the hospital offering me an appointment to see the consultant the next day. The consultant explained the problem in detail and an appointment was made for a procedure at Peterborough Hospital in mid January.

The procedure has been carried out successfully and I would not have received speedier attention even if I belonged to the private sector.
