BUTTERFLIES: Flail mower is so disastrous to wildlife

Have your say

Last night on a mile of my farm road I counted 18 tortoiseshell butterflies and one Red Admiral.

When I travelled down my neighbour’s farm road parallel to mine I only saw two tortoiseshells.

The difference being that he always cuts his roadsides. I never cut my roadsides then all the insects can go through their full life cycle.

If you kill most of the children there won’t be many that make it through to adults.

The flail mower is a very useful tool but when used in June and July it is disastrous to wildlife.
