Following the passing of my mother recently, my siblings and I came across mementoes mother had kept from our childhood.
Among these was a church magazine in which I appeared. Within that magazine was a quite fascinating find. A children’s photo competition had been won by Susan Benner (12) of Spalding. This dates from November 1970 and is the magazine of St John the Evangelist (C of E ) Church in Goose Green, East Dulwich in south London.
I am fascinated as to what brought a young girl from what was probably still regarded as an area “off the beaten track” in those days to the affluent middle-class enclave of Dulwich Village in south London, particularly bearing in mind that travel was far more difficult in those days, with poorer transport links and barely any motorways.
Having found myself living in Spalding (generically speaking) all these years later, I was wondering if Susan Benner is still in the area, or does anyone know anything about her. If so, could you please contact me via the editor.
