Mr Wall’s lengthy discourse on the value of the EU system of payments to our farmers tells just part of the story.
The “single farm payment” system is so complex, not only do the farmers struggle to understand it, but the Rural Payments Agency is failing to administer it properly in this country.
As such, fines imposed by the EU total £642 million to date, and are rapidly rising towards £1 billion.
This is one of the unseen costs of EU membership and is yet another bill to be added to the national debt to become the responsibility of our children and grandchildren.
It would seem much simpler and cheaper for this country to leave the European Union and devise our own system of payments to farmers.
