YOUNGSTERS ran, jumped and threw off the summer holiday boredom at a week-long athletics school.
The Star:Track sessions attracted about 30 eight to 15-year-olds, who were put through their paces in a range of track and field events by coaches from Nene Valley Harriers athletics club.
Coach Arthur Simmonds said: “The idea is to introduce athletics to youngsters who have never done anything like it before.
“We provided a mixture of running, throwing and jumping events, so they got a taste of everything and two of the assistant coaches ran a friendly competition with prizes for the winners.
“This year’s event has been one of the best supported and some of those who took part have expressed an interest in joining the Nene Valley Harriers, which is excellent.
“Everyone seemed to really enjoy it.”
About a dozen youngsters also tried their hand at badminton at coaching sessions run by Spalding Badminton Club.
Coach Billy Chen said: “I think most of the children really enjoyed the taster sessions and had a good time.
“We had a good response to the sessions and some of those who took part might take up badminton and join the club.”
