Holbeach football training course and Spalding Disabled Swimming Club success 25 years ago in 1996
Holbeach youngsters worked on their football skills at a four-day training course back in 1996.
The programme was part of the year’s Escape scheme, and more than 30 players were put through their paces by qualified coach Russell Warby. Area youth worker Jim Brogan said: “It has gone quite well. Everyone has really enjoyed the football coaching.”
Members of Spalding Disabled Swimming Club took part in two big events 25 years ago.
Four swimmers participated in the annual one-hour postal swim, which was organised by the British Long Distance Swimming Association.
David Griffin won a gold medal, while James Benton, Andrew Harrison and Tom Redden were awarded with cloth badges.
The club also entered a team in the 1996 BT Swimathon, and they managed to raise £571.30 for charity.
Tom and Andrew were again presented with sweatshirts for their efforts, while Claire Chappell and Timothy Liquorish got Swimathon towels.
Others were handed badges.
