Lady rescued after slipping in Spalding's Castle Sports Complex's swimming pool
A woman was helped from the water by a fellow swimmer after she slipped in a pool.
On Monday afternoon (December 6), a customer at Castle Sports Centre's swimming pool in Spalding fell in the water during a session.
A Facebook post after the incident read: "Well done to the man in Spalding swimming pool this afternoon who saved the lady in trouble, so lucky he was there".
Comments on the post criticised lifeguards for being slow to react to the ordeal.
A spokesperson for Lex Leisure, which operates the Castle Sports Complex on behalf of South Holland District Council, said: "During a lane swim session on Monday afternoon, a customer tried to stand up but lost her balance and subsequently slipped.
"The lifeguard responded promptly as they are trained to do, pressing the alarm and requesting assistance. In the short time it took for the lifeguard to move into position and perform a throw/reach rescue with a torpedo buoy, the lady was assisted by a man who was next to her in the pool.
"The customer got out of the pool safely and sat with the duty manager on the poolside bench before leaving the session.
"The duty manager called the customer the following day. She was in good spirits, thanking staff for their response, and will be returning to the centre to swim in the near future."
