A COUPLE from Whaplode have described the honour of being invited to a garden party with the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Keith and Janet Robinson, of Cobgate, were selected to attend the event last Wednesday after being nominated by Keith’s colleagues at the National Construction College in Bircham Newton.

Keith said: “It’s an honour for me to go but I was representing the college as much as I was myself.

“We were both excited. We arrived about 2.50pm and went through the main gates, through two great halls and into the garden.

“The Beefeaters formed a guard for the Queen to come out and although I didn’t get to speak to her she wandered through the crowd.”

Keith said they were joined by people from all walks of life at the party.

Both he and Janet, who works at Whaplode Primary School, treated themselves to new outfits for the occasion.

He added: “We did not know what to expect. It’s something you do not think about until it happens to you.”
