WEEKEND WEB: Matthew’s an arty winner in ’00

We look back at the Spalding Guardian this week in 2000...

Artistic talent led to literary prize for one lucky youngster and his school.

Matthew Crutchley (5), a class one pupil at Sutton St James Primary School, won a competition run by Holbeach, Long Sutton and SuttonBridge libraries linked to the Daisy Duck series of books.

Matthew had to colour in a picture of Daisy and his picture was judged the best for his use of colour.

Creeper author drops in Spalding bookshop

Schoolchildren had a chance to pick up some writing tips from an author in Spalding.

Pete Johnson dropped into Bookmark in The Crescent to signcopies of his new fantasy horror book, Creeper. Two classes from Spalding Grammar School and primary school children from Ayscoughfee Hall and St John’s read some of Pete’s 20 published stories befor e the event.
