MAN’S BEST FRIEND: A weekly column from the South Lincs Centre of Jerry Green Dog Rescue
At seven-years-old, Gloria has only lived half her life and we desperately need your help to make sure she continues to be happy and healthy for many years to come.
Coming in to us as a stray, we knew very little about Gloria’s past. A visit to our vets soon raised concerns as lumps were found on her mammary glands that desperately need to be removed.
Not only are these lumps causing poor Gloria lots of pain and discomfort, they have the potential to be malignant tumors, which pose a huge threat to her health and even her life.
Our vet is confident of a positive outcome for Gloria if she is able to have the partial mammary strip surgery that she so desperately needs – treatment that will total £450.
Please share our appeal and support if you can.
Every single pound will make a difference so please use the link below to find our Just Giving page and hit donate.
Please give generously and let’s give Gloria the best chance of getting back on her paws and getting back to full health: www.justgiving.com and search for glorias appeal
DOG OF THE WEEK
“Hi. I’m Marjorie. I love getting to meet lots of new people and am always happy having cuddles with everyone.
“I also really enjoy playing with toys and will happily run around all day with them, throwing them around and pouncing on them.
“Although I have made a couple of dog friends here at Jerry Green’s, I would like a pet-free home that can help me with my socialisation when out and about.
“I feel that I would like to be in a home without very young children as that may be too much for me but could possibly live with older ones that have been used to dogs before.
“Please phone my friends here at Jerry Green’s on 01205 260546 to come and meet me.”
Once you’ve made the decision that you would like a dog in your life there’s so much to think about!
Spare a little time to consider the type of dog which would suit your lifestyle. Do you have a big garden or do you live in a flat? Do you live rurally or in the middle of town?
How many walks are you able to commit to a day, would you like an active dog who could go on a hike with you or someone who is a little more sedate? Would you love to groom and brush your dog or would a shorter haired breed suit you better?
Have a think about the type of dog which could suit you and your family. Giving consideration to the breed of dog and what it was originally bred to do can help you decide. There are a number of breed books available so do have a read! Doing a little research now can help guard against issues in the future and ensure you have a long and happy relationship with your new best friend!
