We want South Holland Home Guard memories

Have your say

Geoff Taylor, chairman of Friends of Chain Bridge Forge in Spalding, has submitted this photograph of the Home Guard troops in Spalding.

It was originally donated to the forge museum by Sheila Pitts (nee Russell).

Geoff says Sheila can identify her father John Russell (fifth from the left on the second row), but wonders if anyone can identify others – or knows what the occasion was.

Geoff says: “We believe there were a number of Home Guard troops in Spalding. Maybe they had just received their uniforms?

“We should not forget the unsung heroes of WW2, the Home Guard, much derided by the Dad’s Army TV programme.

“Maybe you remember anecdotes or were told stories about the Home Guard. If you were why not share them with us?”

The forge website southhollandlife.com already has some memories that can be found by searching ‘Homeguard and WW2’and you can add to these.
