HELPING HAND: A monthly look at opportunities with the Spalding Volunteer Centre, by volunteering officer Sarah Turner

Looking for a new challenge? Do you have a hidden talent, underused skills or a desire to help people within your local community? If so volunteering could be the answer.

No special skills are required but volunteers need to be friendly, be able to work as part of a team and have a good sense of humour

This month LCVS is looking for volunteers to help at a new youth venture that is held in Spalding on a Friday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm for the 9 – 14 age groups. The volunteers help to get the rooms ready for the young people before they arrive and help tidy at the end of the day. If you are enthusiastic, fun, dedicated and passionate about engaging with young people, this may be the opportunity for you.

Every Wednesday, a lunch club in the centre of Holbeach provides a two course meal with all profits going to Holbeach Hospital. Volunteers are required between 9.30am and 2.30pm to get the hall ready, help prepare, cook and serve the food and at the end of the lunch everyone helps to clear away and wash up. No special skills are required but volunteers need to be friendly, be able to work as part of a team and have a good sense of humour.

Do you feel you could enhance the life of a sight impaired person? On the third Wednesday of every month from 2pm to 4pm a social club is held in Crowland for both visually impaired people and their carers. The Social Club would welcome volunteers who enjoy meeting people, are reliable, considerate, excellent listeners and love a good natter.

Would you like to volunteer but need to work from home? Helpline volunteers are required to offer reliable information, friendly support and useful signposting to women and their loved ones affected by cervical cancer. Volunteers are required to attend a residential training weekend and must have access to a landline telephone. Working anonymously from home covering at least one three hour shift a fortnight during a weekday or evening. All volunteers are provided with training and ongoing support.
