An ambitious Spalding woman has kick-started a campaign she hopes will contribute to world peace.

Veterinary surgeon Angela Barca was sparked into action by the Ukraine war - and at midnight on June 1, she travelled to London to hold a ‘symbolic clap for peace’.

She is also in the process of setting up a new charity called Imagine, which she hopes will be official within eight weeks.

Ms Barca hoped people from around the world would join in with her clap, and held it on the Jubilee weekend as a ‘gift to the Queen’.

She said: “The gift is that we declare world peace. We’re not waiting for (Ukraine president) Velenskyy, we’re not waiting for Putin - we’re not waiting anymore.

“This world needs to be changed. Things are bad - people are dying, children are suffering, the environment is a disaster. There is a disaster everywhere.

“We need to start from love and peace and respect for ourselves. If we don’t put things in the right order, we’ll never get anywhere.”

Ms Barca is aiming to tackle human, environmental and animal issues when she sets up her new charity.

With the latter in mind, she hoped to travel to Trafalgar Square dressed as a gorilla.

She has also been posting regularly on Facebook and TikTok in a bid to create a ‘flash mob’ and spark interest in her campaign.

“I think it is important to start in London because it is a pivotal place with a lot of economic power,” she added.

“It’s where lots of weapons are being sent to Ukraine from, so it is pretty significant if peace starts from here.

“Then it is my ambition that it will spread - if people are ready.

“Do you want peace? Then do something about it.

“Smile more, try to help your friends, try to water some plants. Just open your eyes and do what you can in the moment.”

Following her London travels, Ms Barca has set her sights on having a ‘world peace flag’ passed all the way from Spalding to Mariupol in Ukraine.

The Best Friends Vet Group worker wants to create a chain of people through whom the flag can be passed, eventually being planted in the war-torn country.
