UPDATE: Part of A16 just outside Spalding still closed after lorry carrying 44 tonnes of melons overturns




A section of the A16 is still closed just outside Spalding after a lorry carrying 44 tonnes of melons rolled over at the B1165 Low Road roundabout.

Officers are on scene are managing traffic, recovery has arrived and a second lorry is collecting the cargo.

The road has been closed off while recovery takes place and traffic is being diverted through Spalding, causing delays.

PREVIOUSLY: A lorry carrying up to 44 tonnes of melons has overturned on the A16 just outside Spalding.

Police are currently at the scene of the accident at the A16/B1165 Low Road, also the turn-off for Weston Hills.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "We were informed of a white, Mercedes articulated lorry full of melons which had overturned at about 3.25pm.

"The lorry is completely on it side after colliding with a lamppost and street light.

"Once a recovery team arrives, a section of the A16/B1165 roundabout will need to be closed, while the remaining section is kept open."

The spokesman also confirmed that the lorry driver appeared to be uninjured.
