UPDATE: Motorist dies in A17 collision

UPDATE: A 73-YEAR-OLD Holbeach man has died in hospital following a collision on the A17 this morning.

The man was driving a silver Nissan Qashqai which left the A17 and crashed into a lamppost just after 10am. The collision occurred at Gedney.

A post mortem examination is taking place tomorrow to establish whether the man’s death was as a result of the collision or a medical problem.

The road was still shut this afternoon while an invesitgation into the incident continued.

POLICE have closed part of the A17 between Holbeach and Long Sutton following a collision on the road at Gedney.

Officers say a 4x4 has come off the road at the section known as Washway Road, Gedney just after 10am this morning.

The extent of the driver’s injuries are not yet known but it is not believed that anyone else was travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Motorists have reported long delays through Fleet as traffic is diverted to avoid the scene.
