THREE intrepid fundraisers made it to the top of the world’s largest free-standing mountain in aid of their favourite good causes.
John Rawson (54), of Donington, his nephew Matt Wilson (26), of Spalding, and Matt’s girlfriend Kimberley Barnett (25), of Moulton, tackled the eight-day Lemosho route up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
John and Matt raised more than £1,000 for the Cerbral Palsy Sport charity, while midwife Kimberley raised £900 for the Pilgrim Maternity Fund.
John said: “It was a great experience and we didn’t suffer any of the health problems such as headaches and altitude sickness that are commonplace, although a couple of others in our group did suffer a bit.
“However, it was quite sobering that a member of the trekking company was collecting the body of someone who had died on the descent the previous week.”
He thanked everyone who supported them and said the total raised had far exceeeded their expectations.
